As a university centre we take our research responsibilities seriously and recognize the value of research to our students, our faculty, the profession and the community at large. We encourage a balance between teaching and research among our faculty and support their efforts and partnerships with industry, government funding organizations and NGOs.
Physiotherapists should take leading roles in research societies and professional associations. We have an important part to play in public debate on critical issues that relate to our skills and knowledge.
Every year the School of Physiotherapy hosts a Student Research Day. Each student is required to complete an independent major project prior to graduation. The projects are comprised of a number of written components which culminate in a completed research proposal suitable for submission to an Ethical Review Board and/or Granting agency.
The final proposal is evaluated by two reviewers who have not been involved with the project during its development. Reviewers expect to receive a complete, professionally presented document suitable for graduate level studies and evaluate the proposal accordingly.
Students are responsible for determining the specific research question, searching and analyzing related health literature to form the scientific rationale for the study, developing the project methodology and preparing the written proposal for submission and defence.
