Biography: Dr. Makrides is the President of Creative Wellness Solutions (CWS), and the Founder and Director of the Atlantic Health and Wellness Institute (AHWI), a research company that provides comprehensive workplace health promotion programs to individuals and corporate/government groups.

Dr. Makrides held various positions as professor at Dalhousie University, with the last 13 years as Director of the School of Physiotherapy. She recently left Dalhousie University to pursue other interests in comprehensive workplace health. She is the External Advisor for the Singapore Lifestyle Improvement and Fitness Enhancement Centre of the Ministry of Health, Singapore. Dr. Makrides received many awards and recognitions such as the International Sports Medicine Symposium for the Master Athlete; the Silver Quill Award; the Progress Women of Distinction Award in Health and Education, was awarded an Honorary Membership from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and is listed in the Canadian Who's Who publication.

Dr. Makrides established the first Cardiac Rehabilitation program in Atlantic Canada and is a founding member of the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation. Dr. Makrides has received over $3.5 million dollars in research grants over the years. She is currently the principal investigator of the Healthy LifeWorks Project titled the Effect of Comprehensive Workplace Wellness on Economic & Clinical Factors, designed to improve health and reduce the risk of chronic disease in employees of the Nova Scotia Public Service Commission.

Dr. Makrides was also the Principal Investigator of Project IMPACT, a research program that examined the effect of a health promotion program in decreasing the coronary risk and improving the health of employees in eight major Nova Scotia companies and was the Director of a $30-million contract between Dalhousie University and the Ministry of Health, State of Kuwait.

Dr. Makrides has contributed to more than 30 publications and speaks widely on issues related to workplace health/wellness, prevention and health promotion nationally and internationally.
