Research interests: Dr. Harman's research interest is in the study of pain from prevention of chronicity to the management of chronic pain – a recurring research theme throughout her career.

Her current focus of research is the injured worker. With several research projects in collaboration with the Workers Health, Safety and Compensation Commission of New Brunswick, she is exploring best physiotherapy practices for sub-acute low back pain and factors that influence compensation decisions for injured workers.

She has overseen a variety of research projects that deal with the physical and psycho-social factors that affect us everyday. They include standing and sitting posture and work-related stress, the role of physiotherapy in cognitive behavioural therapy approach to chronic low back pain treatment and therapeutic exercise for CLBP.

In addition, she has designed and tested a new interview process for Admission to the School of Physiotherapy which was used for the first time in September 2007.

Dr. Harman's expertise has been acknowledged in her contributions to many peer reviewed publications and she has contributed chapters to various textbooks. She has also been invited to speak about her research in national and local conferences.
