Professor Kelm joined the School of Physiotherapy faculty at Dalhousie in 2005. Her undergraduate and graduate studies were completed at the University of Saskatchewan. Cheryle’s clinical and research interests in cardiopulmonary health and disease (primarily cystic fibrosis, asthma and COPD), acute cardiac care, women’s health, and technology-enhanced learning in the cardiorespiratory curriculum were reflected across her 25 + year teaching and research involvements in the School of Physiotherapy at the U of S. Since joining the Dalhousie faculty her teaching has been focused in the cardiopulmonary and integrated practice modules of the ELM curriculum.
Cheryle has had extensive professional involvements with committees and programs of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Canadian Lung Association (provincial and national levels), Cardiorespiratory Division of CPA, and Canadian Network for Respiratory Care (formerly CNAC). In 2005, just prior to her move to NS, she received a Saskatchewan Centennial Leadership Award for outstanding contribution to the province related to her volunteer work with the Lung Association of SK and Discovery Asthma Camp. Professor Kelm presently teaches regional interdisciplinary facilitator training courses on patient self-management for respiratory diseases (Resp Trec) and is keenly interested in simulation training in health professional education with current related involvements at provincial and university committee levels.
