Research interests: Parkinson’s Disease is a movement disorder that causes tremor, stiffness and difficulty in starting movements. As the North American population ages, this condition and others like it will affect more and more people, limiting their mobility and independence, and creating a great ER strain on health care systems and family caregivers.

Dr. George Turnbull hopes recent research will help to change that.

As a teacher, researcher and practitioner in the field of physiotherapy for more than 35 years, Dr. Turnbull brings a vast array of experience and knowledge to the research lab and the classroom.

His primary research, in the Maritime Parkinson Clinic at the Dalhousie School of Physiotherapy, aims to improve quality of life for individuals with this debilitating condition.

Funded by the Parkinson Foundation of Canada, his research measures the effectiveness of exercise programs on mobility for individuals with Parkinson’s and its side effect of a sedentary life, and the effects of augmented visual and auditory cueing to improve gait in people with Parkinsons.
