So, you’re thinking about a career as a physiotherapist. If you’ve got a positive outlook on life, love helping people and have a strong analytical mind, physiotherapy could be the career for you.

Physiotherapists possess strong interpersonal skills, patience and understanding, and have the ability to motivate and encourage people. They have good problem-solving skills, which are crucial in assessing, diagnosing, planning and treating. They are clear and caring communicators, sharing their knowledge with the client, family members and other health-care providers.

Physiotherapy presents a variety of job opportunities. Physiotherapists may work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary health-care team. A physiotherapist can work in:

  • orthopaedics
  • paediatrics
  • cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
  • rheumatology
  • gerontology
  • women’s health
  • sports physiotherapy
  • neurosciences
  • health promotion
  • manual therapy
  • health care management and more

Entry-level physiotherapy education takes place in one of the 14 universities in Canada, including Dalhousie University. Dalhousie’s School of Physiotherapy is the only such school in Atlantic Canada.

The MSc Physiotherapy, entry to practice degree, is an intensive program completed over 25 months. To apply, students must have a four-year undergraduate degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
